There was a time I genuinely believed this:
If I thought through every possible outcome… I’d avoid a disaster.
At work, that made sense; working as a veterinary surgeon, animals’ lives were on the line. Missing something didn’t feel like an option.
But that same logic crept into everything. Including my weekends.
Planning “a relaxing Saturday” turned into mental gymnastics:
Book the 12pm lunch? But then I miss yoga.
Do yoga first? But what if I’m too tired to enjoy lunch?
What if I skip yoga? But then I’ve wasted £12… unless I sleep badly and wish I hadn’t skipped it? eurgh 😭
I used to spend so much time calculating the “best” option…
I didn’t notice how much joy it was stealing.
Here’s the belief I’ve had to unlearn:
“If I make the right decision, I’ll get to relax.”
Because ironically, that need to make the perfect choice is what made me need a break in the first place 🙈
When I learned to let go, to trust myself to make a decision and deal with what comes, life got easier.
I relaxed even when things weren’t perfect.
And they got more fun tbh 😅
