Last week, I LAUGHED when I received the following comments on a Facebook post
"I’d seriously look into it with a therapist"
And
"Perfectionism is a sign of childhood trauma".
Yup, I laughed 🤷♀️
The comments didn't hurt. At all.
No raise in my heart rate, no feeling sick. No applying mindfulness techniques to get to the point where they didn't bother me.
They just didn't bother me 🤷♀️
In fact, I thought "yup you're right. Bit brutal phrased like that and now I need to find a way to reply politely so that others reading this aren't alarmed"
... but it GENUINELY didn't bother me.
What changed between writing this post on Wednesday 6th Nov saying “I feel a bit sick at the thought of receiving negative comments”, and me laughing at the above comments on Thursday 7th Nov?
EFT.
EFT is what happened.
And more people need to know about it.
What is EFT?
It stands for Emotional Freedom Technique and it’s also known as tapping.
It involves tapping on acupucture points on the hands, face and body, while talking.
And I KNOW, I KNOW, it sounds like woo woo. But it works and it’s something my clients regularly refer to as “magic” (and occasionally “witch-craft” 😅).
EFT helps make conscious processes unconscious
So rather than consciously applying mindfulness techniques (like the ones described here), the negative thoughts just didn’t happen 💃
It's like when you first learn to drive a car
At first it takes every bit of your concentration. Overtime it becomes second nature and you can eat a sandwich while driving and having a conversation.
That process from consciously thinking about every step to unconsciously doing it without thinking, takes time.
Just like the process of learning to approach things mindfully takes time.
OR you can use EFT and go straight to it being an unconscious process 🤯
Which is why, when I received comments on a Facebook post saying I should see a therapist, it didn't bother me.
In the aim of keeping this brief, I’ll stop this here.
But I hope I’ve piqued your interest.
Let me know in the comments if you’re already familiar with EFT, or is it something totally new to you? What do you want to know if so?
If you're familiar with it - what do you know about it? Have you tried it? How do you find it?

Sending love,

PS. Fed up of consciously having to remind yourself:
I’m not a bad person if I leave work on time
It’s ok to say “no” to dinner with Auntie Margaret on Saturday if I’m exhausted
I AM good at my job, even if I’m not perfect?
This is exactly the kind of the thing we change when we work together.
EFT sessions to re-write these beliefs, so you don’t have to keep consciously reminding yourself.
AND detailed mindfulness strategies to you create positive habits and thought patterns moving forwards.
If you want to start going to bed proud and believing you’re a good person, even on the hard days, book a free call and let’s talk about working together.
Fab post Lucy! I can imagine you laughing at a message like that - as you should! - Em
