Thanks Lucy!! Really enjoying the subscription and only week 1

1: Having a mind that is everything, everywhere, all at once is not serving me and is not necessary for me to be productive. Just writing that makes me feel like weight is starting to lift

2: I need to really start noticing when my mind is racing on auto pilot- from this week this is way more than I realised before

3: Not to put pressure on myself as this training will take time, at the moment keep trying to notice and take that as a little success! And I need to persevere daily to notice.

1- My biggest lesson from this one was learning that I’m not the only person to feel the way I do in vet practice, and that maybe there’s hope for me 🤞

2- I’m going to subscribe to your podcasts to learn more!!

3- I clearly have so much to work on & learn, but first is to work out how to integrate meditation into my life somehow that could actually work for me, and not be a chore that I gradually forget to do over time…

1. A reminder that you can/should enjoy work!

2. Set clearer clearer boundaries between home and work so when I'm 'at work', I work and when I'm 'at home', I switch off from work.

3. How to switch between work mode and home mode when you're working from home.

YES, love that first point that we can and should enjoy work! Maybe not every minute of every day, but we chose it for a reason 🙏

Switching between work and home mode when you're WRH is hard. You mention setting clearer boundaries, so think about being more specific in what this would look like for you. And now you've also listened to episode 2 on taking a 60 second meditation to mark the end of the work day, think about how you could use that as a strategy.

1) you can learn to be more mindful with meditation, that this is an exercise to get better at learning to focus rather than a technique to 'relax.

So pleased you found it interesting Hannah and love your key learning point, it’s one I wish more people understood!

Great question regarding what does a “good” meditation look like. I find it helpful to compare training your mind with meditation, to training your body at the gym. So if you lifted 50kg, is that a “good” session? Well it depends what your goal is, and where you are in your training. Are you aiming for a 100kg deadlift and your plan was to reach that last week? In which case, a 50kg lift is not a “good” gym session. But if you’re training to lift 50kg for 20 reps and you did that - then great session.

So to define a “good” meditation, and in order to meditate effectively, you need to know WHY you’re meditating. Is to train your brain to focus on one thing? Is it to train your brain to slow down? Is it to train your brain to identify thoughts as opinion or fact, and to do so without judgement? And then, in my humble opinion, any meditation in which you practise that, EVEN if you find it hard and your brain wanders off 100 times, becomes a “good” meditation.

I could talk about this all day, but I hope that helps for now - tomorrow and Wednesday I’m sharing a 60 second meditation to get you started 🥰

1. Biggest lesson is realising I spend most of my time trying to do too many things at once and if I'm not doing anything then I'm usually on my phone.

2. Try and give my full attention to tasks

3. How to enjoy my own company and own thoughts rather than filling my thoughts with other tasks

Hi Laura, thanks so much for sharing these. It's super common to actually fill up every minute of our time and your question highlights exactly why - we don't know what to do with ourselves when we're NOT doing something. So how do we enjoy our own company? The first step in this is realising that it's a process to learn. Which means it might be uncomfortable at times, just like learning any new skill can feel clunky initially. If that resonates, I'll be sharing a technique for dealing with discomfort on Friday, so I hope that helps! And then start small - you wouldn't try and run a marathon if you couldn't even run for the bus, so don't set too high expectations for yourself initially! In my one-to-one coaching we call this "informal practice" - create time to practise the skill you're interested in.
