When I first heard about EFT I thought it was ridiculous.
But I trusted my therapist to try it anyway - and was quickly blown-away by how powerful it was.
While the best way to learn about EFT is it to try it, I get it if you’re skeptical. So here’s some of the basics.
What is it?
EFT stands for “Emotional Freedom Technique” and it’s also known as tapping.
It’s a form of meditation or therapy involving tapping on acupucture points on the face, hands and body while talking.
It can be done
while listening to a track and repeating back set phrases
with a practitioner with phrases totally personalised to you
on your own once you’ve learnt the formula.
What do you say?
In a nutshell, you start by talking about what is true, but difficult. Then gradually, as you allow yourself to actually feel what you're feeling (how often do you say “honestly it's fine!” when honestly, it's not? and then never stop to acknowledge how you really feel?), you can move into talking about what is positive, and also true.
Why do it?
SO MANY REASONS.
If there are things you know you should be doing to make life easier and happier, but it feels almost physically impossible to do that (like stopping worry about a past event, or actually going to bed on time), EFT helps make it happen.
Here's a few examples
When you want to switch off and your mind just KEEPS TALKING, especially if regular meditation makes it worse at this point
When you're feeling angry / sad / frustrated / embarrassed/ any difficult emotion and you want to feel a better
When you're struggling to make a decision because you can't think straight (check out this free example)
When you want to change something in your life, eg. Actually say no to meetings at lunch time, or to not take comments so personally, but despite your best efforts, you can't override the voice in your head
What's the science?
We know it helps with things like PTSD, anxiety and depression, and that it creates changes in the brain, but the data is still limited on how. Check out this guide for more. EFTi Research Summary Final 2022
How long does it take?
It can be done in as little as 2-3 minutes to help manage emotions in the moment, to deep dives of 60-90 minutes when you have time to sit down and process things properly - especially if you recognise you want things to be different next time.
As with anything, the more you put in, the more you get out.
If it's so good, why do you still find some things hard?
Because I'm only human and there are only so many hours in the day! I have a lot to work through (we all do!) but life is a damn site easier and more enjoyable than it was pre-EFT and mindfulness.
What do clients say?
Clients regularly refer to this as magic. It’s what takes them from struggling with a technique (like letting go of the need for something to be perfect), to being able to implement it.
I’ve had reviews like this on a 3-4 minute free EFT meditation (you can try it here).
Before using this I felt slightly like I was going into overdrive thinking (it was a decision over whether to eat now / coffee now / exercise / keep working) and after I definitely feel more calmed and like “f*ck it, we can relax into this a bit more, it’s no biggie”.
It’s helped me realise that the decision I need to make doesn’t need to feel fraught, and it’s helped me start planning what I need to do next.
When I do deep-dives with one-to-one clients, these are the kind of results we get
🤩 A trainee architect, once stuck in worry over an assessment despite mindfulness, learned to trust his efforts—and finally enjoy evenings with his partner.
🤩 A recent vet graduate, terrified of struggling through CPD, went from avoiding difficult topics to signing up for them—and even became the go-to expert at her practice.
🤩 An overwhelmed stay-at-home mum, unable to enjoy her “good life,” learned to be present—finding joy in the little moments, even on tough days.
Is it for me?
If there’s a behaviour you want to change, but you find it REALLY hard, EFT helps with this. Things like
You put a lot of pressure of yourself to make everything perfect; you’re aware it sucks out some of the fun, but it’s hard to stop!
You get upset if things aren’t exactly the way you’d planned and then find it hard to enjoy it, even though you know there’s nothing majorly wrong
You want to let go when something genuinely stressful happens, rather than playing it over and over in your mind for hours (or days!).
It gets to the root of the reason it’s hard to stop, and then helps you create a new way of thinking.
How does it relate to mindfulness?

Can I book a session?!
Absolutely, but here’s why I do things differently.
EFT is powerful on its own, but it works even better alongside mindfulness. EFT helps clear the mental roadblocks, while mindfulness helps you stay present and navigate life with ease.
That’s why my one-to-one coaching package combines both - so you don’t just feel better in the moment, but actually build long-term resilience and joy.
You get

Glad to see this, Lucy! I invested in Gary Craig's original EFT program in the early 1990s, and even though the DVDs were the quality of those days, the effectiveness was astonishing.
I support what you are doing 100%
