Day 3 already! Today’s principle to SOAR builds on principles 1 and 2.
If you’ve missed them, here’s the previous episodes.
After listening to day 3, you’ll know how to start creating more time to relax, every single day - even if you’re currently so busy you utilise every spare minute to tick things off your to-do list.
These principles underpin being more productive as well as enjoying your evenings - I mention a short blog post on creating more time - you can read it here.
As for days 1 and 2, come back here after you’ve listened and let me know
What is your biggest lesson from today?
What will you do differently as a result?
What do you need to know to make that happen?
And then we can all learn from each other and secondly I can support you in making it happen.
Before I sign off, a note about self-confidence.
On Monday night, I shared a post in a private Facebook group for veterinary professionals, and I’ve been blown away by the response.
As in, I had a little cry this morning at the feedback from people 🥲
In that post, I shared how I left veterinary practice with burnout in 2017.
How I wish I’d known then what I know now about meditation and mindfulness.
But that even if I had, I still would have left veterinary practice.
And it’s that fact, that has stopped me sharing what I do in large veterinary forums in the past.
Even though
I KNOW I’m good at coaching
My clients talk about how life-changing it is working with me
I REALLY want to support more vets, and other hard-working professionals, to see how powerful meditation and mindfulness is…
I felt like a fraud.
How could I sit here from my comfy little life and say “mindfulness will fix everything!” when it would never be enough to make me enjoy life as a practising vet?
But here’s the thing.
Mindfulness gives me the confidence to own that story.
To say “actually, regardless of how mindful I am, being a practising vet isn’t for me”.
And while I felt a tinge of nerves at posting that story in the vet facebook group, I honestly barely thought about it.
My mindfulness practise is still growing, and finally, 3 years after starting coaching, I have the confidence to own that story in public.
To get out of my own way and actually support a profession I care about.
And be the coach I want to be - the one that is honest and realistic about mindfulness, while also shouting from the rooftops about how damn life-changing it is.
So whether you’re new here, or you’ve been with me since the start, a massive thank you for being here.
And a reminder that mindfulness is about so much more than “relaxing” and “managing stress”.
If you commit to making mindfulness a way of life, you will
Be confident to go after your dreams, even if they feel scary
Be confident to say no to things you don’t want, ESPECIALLY when that feels scary
Stop worrying so much what other people think of you
Trust yourself, whether that’s about making decisions, sharing a personal story, or apologising for an IT error that stopped people getting what they signed up for (sorry again for that - hope you’re all receiving this one 🤞)
The podcast this week is focusing on switching off and enjoying your time away from work, because that’s so important, but honestly, this is just the beginning.
Sending lots of love, Lucy x
